On average, the 2016 Toyota Tacoma starts to “feel” problems with the FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM and its various aspects after 24 271 miles.

Recently reported FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM problems on 2016 Toyota Tacoma

I left my car running engine and star smelling gasoline.

Driving on the interstate 70 mph, engine quits. 2 dash lights come on truck maxes out at 40mph out of nowhere. pulled over shut truck off and started it up no ran fine note: check eng light is now on. bad gas diagnosis. gas replaced happens 1 more time. diagnosed with bad fuel injectors not covered under extended warranty, cause was bad gas. the loss of power happened 2 other times.

This car has shut off twice while driving. first time while towing a boat... while turning left on a high speed two lane road and second while going 45 towards a green light. both times the car just shut off. we could have been killed...twice! toyota says "fixed' the problem "twice". we asked them to buy the car back after the second time, as we no longer felt safe in it.......they refused. as a gesture of "good will" they offered us an extended warranty, which we had already gotten when we purchased the car so it was pointless. we created a case with them after it occurred the second time. the most recent recall that addresses this issue does not include this model year and it needs to. someone is going to die..this is a very serious issue. we are now stuck with a car that we don't feel safe in but toyota would not do the right thing. hopefully by us reporting our problem it will save someone else life.

Toyota has impounded my car indefinitely for the rear differential recall. i'm left driving a loaner. they said prepare to not have my car for maybe months. this is unacceptable. my vehicle is located at toyota of escondido in california. i hold the title yet i can't have my car? pretty sure that's illegal.

Driving about 60 mph on the freeway, when the vehicle started to lose power, started bucking and then stalled. i was able to pull over to the shoulder. luckily the road was fairly empty and there was no collision so no one was injured. the vehicle would not start. the trac off and check engine came on; charging system error showed. had to have it towed to the dealership. only 10,000 miles on the vehicle. the dealership report said it was the crank position sensor, replaced it with an "enhanced" version and the vehicle functions normally again. tacomaworld.com has had many members report similar failures, especially involving the 2016 tacoma.

Abnormal chirp or squeak noise from high pressure fuel pump. this happens while at idle and is a known issue for 2012-2013 toyota scions too (attaching scion tsb with this complaint). toyota replaced the fuel pump at 2,017 miles and in less than 400 miles the issue returned. the toyota field technician said that toyota is aware that there is an issue but there is no fix and no eta for a fix. toyota is refusing to replace the high pressure fuel pump again. i opened a case with toyota corporate and they sent it back to the dealer for authorization from the field technician. again the field technician refused to authorize a replacement fuel pump. the dealer is lithia toyota of medford, oregon.

Chirping noise comes and goes. very loud. also a constant clicking. anything that makes noise like that will fail soon. also had a grinding noise while in four wheel drive on beach and truck started to lose power.grinding went away but happens often.

Tl* the contact owns a 2016 toyota tacoma. while driving at various speeds, the estimated mpg displayed on the message board was inaccurate. the vehicle was taken to a dealer who was unable to diagnose or repair the vehicle; however, the computer was reset. the technician also stated that the estimated mpg of fuel consumption was not calculated when the vehicle was idling. the failure persisted and the manufacturer was notified. the failure mileage was 1,000.
